Four Types of Career Paths at the Colorado State Patrol

(COLO) – Working in law enforcement can take many forms and shapes, just ask a Colorado State Trooper about the varied positions within their agency – Troopers, Executive Security Guards, Emergency Communication Dispatchers, and Port of Entry Officers. Over the next six months when you see one of our six specialty-wrapped “recruiting cruisers” with the yellow stripe deployed across the state or see a Patrol member at a community event, we hope you ask them about career opportunities!

Colorado Introduces Changes to Bike Laws

(COLO) - As a reminder for Colorado Bike Month, motorists should be aware that a new bill was signed into Colorado law this past April that may change the behaviors of bicyclists and other human-powered vehicles. The new rule has been termed the “Safety Stop,” and it applies to bicycle riders and other low-speed conveyances, such as electrical assisted bicycles, and electric scooters.

Warm Weather Sees Upward Trend of Impaired Drivers

(COLO) – Each year as the warm weather starts to stabilize in May, Colorado troopers begin to see impaired driving incidents rise. The number of driving under the influence arrests hold fairly steady through summer into early autumn. In 2021, the Colorado State Patrol arrested 4,665 impaired drivers with over 35% of those occurring during the four-month period of May through August.

Super Cruising in Colorado This Summer?

(Colorado) – During the summer of 2021, the southwest region of Colorado saw an alarming 21 fatal crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Known for premier hiking, camping, fishing and mountain biking, the western slope of Colorado regularly sees a steady volume of in-state and out-of-state visitors throughout the summer as well as during ‘shoulder seasons.’ And these recreationists, may not always be familiar with the area’s roadways or with towing in mountain conditions.

Colorado State Patrol Reveals Top Five Casual Crash Factors for the State’s Youngest Drivers

(COLO) – Even after hours of practice and passing a test, new drivers will lack maturity and experience behind the wheel. Parents often work hard to prepare them, yet teen drivers have a higher rate of fatal crashes and make mistakes which is why all 50 states and the District of Columbia have graduated driver licensing (GDL) (NHTSA).

Colorado State Patrol Partners with Bandimere Speedway for 20th Year for “Take it to the Track”

(COLO) – Start your engines, the opening night of “Take it to the Track” is Wednesday, April 27 from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Bandimere Speedway located at 3051 S. Rooney Road, Morrison. The Colorado State Patrol has partnered with Bandimere Speedway for 19 years, so drivers of any age can come and legally race down the quarter-mile strip at full speed in a controlled environment.

Slow Down, Move Over Applies to Tow and Maintenance Vehicles Too

(COLORADO) – When you hear the phrase, “slow down, move over,” do you know it references the requirement of drivers to safely clear a lane or slow down when approaching emergency, tow, and maintenance vehicles when their emergency lights are on?  If so, well done, you’re in the minority!  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, only 30% of people know this law despite similar laws in ALL 50 states.

Colorado State Patrol Finds that as Confidence Grows So Does Distracted Driving Behaviors

(COLO) – In 2021, the Colorado State Patrol investigated 660 injury and fatal crashes as a result of drivers not paying attention behind the wheel. While people often debate which distraction is more dangerous – cell phones, food, pets – there is no argument that distracted driving has become one of the deadliest threats on our roadways. Most motorists are aware that they should keep their eyes on the road at all times, yet often can be found fidgeting with food, electronic devices or pets.
