Colorado State Patrol Sends a Sobering Message This Holiday Season

(COLORADO) – Drivers of all ages often feel vulnerable to drunk drivers and this concern only grows during the holiday season. Already in 2021, there have been over 220 deaths caused by impaired drivers in Colorado. That’s why Colonel Matthew Packard, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol, is delivering a special video message this holiday season to remind our Colorado driving community they have the power to make a choice and build a plan before the party begins.

Public Notice: Colorado State Patrol Seeks Comments for Accreditation Assessment

(COLORADO) - Colorado State Patrol’s (CSP) Chief Matthew Packard would like to announce a team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will be assessing the Colorado State Patrol from November 29 - December 1, 2021.   The assessments will examine all aspects of the agency's policies, procedures, management, operations, and all support services.  Due to precautions surrounding COVID-19, the site-based assessments will be conducted virtually.

Avoid Critter Collisions

(COLORADO) –Seeing the reflection of two eyes from an animal on the road in front of you can send a wave of adrenaline and fear through even the most experienced drivers, so the Colorado State Patrol would like to assist by providing some general recommendations to lower the chance for a critter collision.

“So far this year, collisions with wildlife have increased 5.5% around the state,” warned Trooper Josh Lewis, Colorado State Patrol “Nighttime hours after 8 p.m. through the six a.m. hour seem to be highest times for these vehicle and animal interactions.”

Street Racing – What Should You Do?

(COLORADO) – If you haven’t seen them or even heard them, there’s no doubt you know about these large street racing groups.  They slow or even shut down traffic on major streets and highways, so they can brazenly and recklessly race at speeds upwards of 100MPH putting themselves and everyone else on the road in danger.  You’ve asked how you should respond if you get caught in these situations and if anything is being done to combat the problem.

Don't Get Taken for a Ride - Research Your Used Car Purchase

(COLORADO) – Finding a used car has become increasingly challenging and with more people looking for a good price online, criminals are finding opportunities to take advantage of innocent people in need on websites like OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist.

Within a 60-day period, two separate Colorado drivers have come in to register their newly purchased vehicles from Texas only to discover that they were stolen and then sold online. The drivers lost thousands of dollars and the vehicles went back to their rightful owners in Texas.
