(Colorado) – Residents and visitors alike should plan for increased traffic this coming holiday weekend on Colorado’s Western Slope. With more people comes increased hazards on highways and local roads, so pack your patience and put away your distractions.
(COLO) – The unofficial end of summer is upon us: cookouts, patio parties and enjoying a long weekend. If alcohol or other impairing substances are a part of your celebration, the Colorado State Patrol wants you to plan ahead for a sober driver. Last year, impaired driving was the top causal factor for fatal crashes in Colorado. This was a 6% increase over 2021.
(COLO) – Heading into the final weeks of summer, the Colorado State Patrol is sending a stern reminder to motorists and pedestrians that roadways are often more congested during warmer months with longer daylight hours. Looking at Colorado State Patrol crash data from 2022, injury and fatal crashes involving pedestrians increased dramatically in July, with the peak months being August and September.
(Colorado) – If you are taking a trip to Colorado’s Western Slope, the Rocky Mountains showcase some of the most amazing scenery. While viewing the natural landscapes and wildlife can be part of the fun as you head to your final destination, the Colorado State Patrol wants drivers to pull off at scenic overlooks and rest stops instead of driving while distracted or parking on the shoulder of the road.
(COLO) – As school-aged children return to the classroom, the Colorado State Patrol reminds drivers to stay alert and watch for pedestrians on foot and bicycles.
(FRUITA, COLO) On July 27, 2023, at approximately 4:10 PM, an on-duty Colorado State Trooper was involved in a crash at the intersection of 22 Road and K Road in Fruita, Colorado, involving the trooper's vehicle and a passenger vehicle.
(COLO) – Fatal and injury crashes caused by lane violations have steadily risen in Colorado year over year since 2019 (450) with Colorado State Troopers investigating 635 in 2022. While most age demographics saw an increase in this category of crashes, three groups saw a significant spike upward, with one group coming in at an alarming 32% increase.
The top five percentage increases in 2022 were:
(COLO) – In 2022, Colorado lost 754 lives in traffic crashes, the most roadway deaths the state has seen in 41 years. One of the top causal factors for injury and fatal crashes across the state is lane violations, which have increased annually since 2019. Looking back at 2019 there were 450 fatal and injury crashes investigated by troopers while last year (2022) there were 635.
