FORT COLLINS — On Tuesday, June 14, at 10 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation celebrated the grand opening of the new northbound and southbound I-25 Port of Entry stations in Fort Collins, near I-25 and Prospect Road. Construction of the new Port of Entry facilities was part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project, Johnstown to Fort Collins.

WELD COUNTY – Investigators with the Colorado State Patrol responded to two crashes on Interstate 25 in Weld County on June 13, 2022, which resulted in six lives lost.  They are requesting assistance for any witnesses that have not yet contacted law enforcement regarding the second crash to come forward with any information.

Shortly before 1:31 PM on I-25 near mile marker 243 a four vehicle crash took place in the northbound lanes, resulting in five fatalities from one vehicle and minor injuries to the driver of another vehicle.  The vehicles involved are:

(COLO) – When schools end for the year, kids and teens are more present throughout their neighborhoods. For many, the easiest and most independent mode of transportation is their bicycles. The Colorado State Patrol is asking parents for help in reminding their kids about the ‘rules of the road’.

Looking at injury and fatal crashes involving a bicycle over a three-year period (2019- 2021) that were investigated by the Colorado State Patrol, incidents were the highest over a five-month period from June through October with July being the peak month.

(COLO) - As a reminder for Colorado Bike Month, motorists should be aware that a new bill was signed into Colorado law this past April that may change the behaviors of bicyclists and other human-powered vehicles. The new rule has been termed the “Safety Stop,” and it applies to bicycle riders and other low-speed conveyances, such as electrical assisted bicycles, and electric scooters.

(COLO) – Each year as the warm weather starts to stabilize in May, Colorado troopers begin to see impaired driving incidents rise. The number of driving under the influence arrests hold fairly steady through summer into early autumn. In 2021, the Colorado State Patrol arrested 4,665 impaired drivers with over 35% of those occurring during the four-month period of May through August.

(Colorado) – During the summer of 2021, the southwest region of Colorado saw an alarming 21 fatal crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Known for premier hiking, camping, fishing and mountain biking, the western slope of Colorado regularly sees a steady volume of in-state and out-of-state visitors throughout the summer as well as during ‘shoulder seasons.’ And these recreationists, may not always be familiar with the area’s roadways or with towing in mountain conditions. 

(COLORADO) – One year ago, in May 2021, the Colorado State Patrol launched its new drone program for investigating fatal and felony crashes. 

(COLO) – Even after hours of practice and passing a test, new drivers will lack maturity and experience behind the wheel. Parents often work hard to prepare them, yet teen drivers have a higher rate of fatal crashes and make mistakes which is why all 50 states and the District of Columbia have graduated driver licensing (GDL) (NHTSA).
