(COLO) – With distractions both inside and outside of the vehicle pulling for our attention, too many drivers have taken a “multi-tasking” approach while behind the wheel. In 2021, the Colorado State Patrol saw a 47% increase in fatal crashes caused by distracted driving in the crashes troopers investigated.
(COLO) – Unlike neighborhood streets or roads with designated bike lanes or large shoulders, there are many highways and rural roadways that are not designed for pedestrian use. When pedestrians are present on access-controlled roads, such as highways, they are placing themselves and motorists at great risk and can be ticketed, or worse, injured or killed.
(COLO) – Traffic deaths surged across Colorado in 2021 hitting a 20-year high and speeding is a major factor in fatalities. Speeding is risky behavior for all drivers and combined with inexperience and distractions the danger rises exponentially.
In a 2021 report released by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and Ford Motor Company Fund, Colorado had 213 teen fatalities between 2015-2019 and 57% of them were speed-related. Since this study concluded, the driving picture has only gotten worse throughout the state.

(COLORADO) – If it feels like vehicle thefts have taken off recently (pun intended), recent data released by the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA) suggests that feeling is accurate. Over this past year, more Coloradans than ever have experienced auto theft in one way, shape, or form personally. In their 2021 ATICC (Auto Theft Intelligence Coordination Center) Report, CATPA shows an 88% increase (36,932 cases) in motor vehicle thefts since 2017 and an 82% increase just since 2019.
ADAMS COUNTY – A Colorado State Patrol Trooper narrowly missed being critically injured or killed on a traffic stop after a second vehicle crashed into the car he had stopped. On February 15, 2022, at approximately 11:34 AM, CSP Master Trooper Travis Hood stopped a 2010 Kia sedan on northbound Interstate 25 near 58th Ave. for a speeding violation. The vehicle pulled over onto the large shoulder to the left of the HOV lane. Master Trooper Hood made contact and returned to his motorcycle to write a citation.

(COLORADO) – We’ve all experienced it before. Someone pulls out in front of you as you’re driving down the road causing you to slam on your brakes, or worse, crash into them. Over the last four years, The Colorado State Patrol has investigated nearly 8,000 crashes caused by drivers failing to yield the right of way, which has resulted in 60 fatalities and nearly 2,000 injuries. Over 60% of these failure-to-yield crashes occurred in intersections. |
(COLO) – Donations of blood see a sharp decline during winter months and the COVID-19 pandemic has complicated things further, canceling many blood donation events across our state and the nation. Whether an ongoing health condition, like cancer, or the need for a blood transfusion following a traumatic injury, the need for donations is much greater now as our nation is experiencing the worst blood shortage in more than a decade!
(COLO) – Lifelong habits begin early and this is why the Colorado State Patrol is urging parents to become familiar with Colorado’s Child Restraint and Graduated Drivers Licensing law regarding seat belts.
“It is a primary offense for children under 16 to be without a seatbelt or improperly restrained in a vehicle,” explains Trooper Tim Sutherland, Colorado Child Passenger Safety Program Coordinator. “This means you can be pulled over without committing any other traffic infraction because the bottom line is kids are relying on you!”
