Colorado State Patrol Achieves Gold Standard, Again!

In March, the Colorado State Patrol was accredited again by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., (CALEA) the gold standard for accrediting law enforcement in the United States and many other countries.

This honor places the Colorado State Patrol in rare company, as the agency actually received three accreditations at one time. Known as the CALEA TRI-ARC award, this honor it is given to an organization that has concurrent CALEA accreditation for their law enforcement, public safety communications and public safety training agencies.

Know the rules of the road: Wait your turn

While driving on Colorado’s roadways seems like a simple task, crash statistics continue to rise in accidents related to drivers failing to yield right of way. Since 2017, the Colorado State Patrol has investigated nearly 8,000 crashes caused by drivers failing to yield right of way, which has resulted in 60 fatalities and nearly 2,000 injuries. More than 60% of these crashes occurred in an intersection. While it seems like a no-brainer, the message can’t be re-iterated enough:  Pay attention and wait your turn.

Alarming Crash Trends Across Colorado – Remember to Move Over or Slow Down

Colorado’s winter is in full swing and with several more months of icy roads predicted, the Colorado State Patrol wants you to know how to keep yourself and others including first responders and emergency operation vehicles safe on roadways.

According to the Emergency Responder Safety Institute, in 2021 65 deaths of first responders have been reported nationally after being struck on the roadside while working. Of those who died, 30 were law enforcement officers, the highest group accounted for, closely followed by tow truck operators (22).
