(COLORADO)—In September 2024, the Colorado State Patrol opened its biennial public opinion survey to ask community members, “How are we doing?” The online survey aimed to receive direct feedback from motorists and community members to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement in Patrol services and calls for support. The survey also asked how people felt about traveling on Colorado’s highways and about the professionalism, fairness and communication provided by Colorado State Patrol members.
According to the over 3,850 respondents, questions related to professionalism (87%), respectful behavior of Patrol members (86%) and treating all people fairly under the law (85%) had the highest responses in favorability. While the lowest scores surrounded concerns about highway and interstate safety. They also weighed in on specific areas where they wanted more enforcement efforts.
When survey respondents were asked if they had noticed safer driving behaviors on Colorado’s roadways over the last two years (2023 and 2024), the majority (77%) indicated that they had not. The survey then asked the top three areas they would like the Patrol to focus on to support community safety. Here are those results.

Feedback from this survey helps Troop leaders prioritize and respond to the community's direct concerns and priorities while also continuing to address the top crash factors in their area. Survey results did show a connection between troopers' visibility and accessibility and how connected and supported a survey respondent felt about the Patrol.
With a strong interest in more trooper interaction at community events, school teachers, business owners, nonprofit organizations and more can request a class or visit from the Colorado State Patrol through their website (https://csp.colorado.gov/
