Fatal Crashes

According to the National Safety Council, it is estimated the average economic cost of each roadway fatality is $1.29 million. In CY 2020, 268 individuals were killed in crashes investigated by CSP troopers, a 4.6 percent decrease over the 281 fatalities in CY 2019.

In 2021, the Colorado State Patrol will align Crime Prevention Programs and messaging with top fatal crash causal factors, seatbelt and helmet usage, and DUI/DUID driving.  This will also target age ranges of occupants with a higher number of fatalities along with increasing enforcement during the time of day and day of the week fatal and injury crashes are more likely to occur.
